Tips on How to Stay Pale and Beautiful After a Skin Cancer Diagnosis

Women facing down skin cancer can't tell us enough just how important skin protection and care truly are. However, with our society being obsessed with exotic dark skin it can be difficult to don your natural hues while still feeling glamorous and sexy. If you have fought or are fighting the disease today, despite your acute knowledge of the importance of skin protection, you may still be feeling a bit left out. Feeling beautiful during and after cancer are important to a woman's healing process, so consider the following tips on how to stay pale and beautiful after a skin cancer diagnosis while learning to adjust to a lifestyle that differs from the norm.

Tip #1: Embrace your healthy new attitude. Even if you never saw a tanning bed before your diagnosis, you likely have a new attitude toward the damaging effects of getting darker for the sake of being trendy. Don't be afraid to warn others, and don't shrink from sharing your experiences.

Tip #2: Concentrate on more color in the face. Blush and lipstick add a healthy glow that looks natural and healthy. They add pigment where the body naturally has a higher concentration, so focus on highlighting these areas with more color to counteract a pale complexion.

Tip #3: Don't overdo it with bottled and spray tans. While spray and bottled tans may represent healthier alternatives to tanning beds and direct sunlight, they can also make wearers appear too "done" when used too often on light base tones. While there's nothing wrong with a spray tan that offers a bit of glow, you might wish to reconsider attempting the dark hues that tanning beds and sunlight offer.

Tip #4: Go easy on the eyes. Wearing makeup on pale skin after a skin cancer diagnosis often means learning how to accentuate the complexion in a more natural way than before. Wearing heavy eye shadow and liner not only draws attention to pale skin, but also detracts from areas that might offer natural pigmentation (such as cheeks and lips). Highlighting the eyes is perfectly fine, but be sure that they don't make the rest of the face appear washed out.

Tip #5: Take care of your under-eyes. Undereye circles and bags are a completely normal reaction to harsh health treatments and the stresses of a major illness. Being pale for the sake of preserving skin in the future can draw a bit of extra attention to these natural occurrences, so you may wish to counteract them with soothing eye gels, plenty of rest, lots of plain water, and the appropriate creams.

Tip #6: Pay attention to hair color. If you are a shade or two paler than you used to be, take another look at how your hair color complements your skin tone. Chances are you may need to visit the salon for a color that adds a bit of warmth to your shade in order to keep it from washing out your complexion. If you prefer, adding a few low-lights at home is a simple and easy fix to this common problem, as well.

Tip #7: Switch to darker nail polish. Extremely dark nail colors pop best on pale skin. Consider deep burgundies, midnight blues, and even black on short, well filed nails.

Tip #8: Make sure that clothing colors have depth. Having pale skin means being able to wear deeper, more vibrant colors than women with tans. Fabrics that offer a bit of shimmer and shine along with a rich shade work well.

Being pale on purpose after and/or during a skin cancer fight is both entirely possible and commendable. If these tips make you feel better about yourself, they're worth the effort. There is no shame in wanting to feel and look your best every day, no matter what may come your way. Focus on healing from the inside out, and spread the message that pale skin is in.
