There are things that one can do when traveling with a truck driver to keep from seeing the pounds start to pack on. Remember that truck drivers are on a time frame, so your normal eating habits, exercise routine and everything else is going to go out the window. I had vowed when I climbed in this truck for the summer that I would not let the weight come back on. Here is what I have learned to do to stay fit while traveling with my truck driver husband.
Truck stops and rest areas:
Use the time that you are at the truck stops or rest areas to your advantage and get your heart pumping. Jog from the truck to the truck stop doors. When leaving the truck stop, jog all the way back to your truck. This also works at the rest areas when you stop to go to the bathroom. Jog from point A to point B and back to keep your body in good physical shape.
Sit down meals in restaurants:
With time being a factor, sitting down to a meal is not always possible. So food is usually something that is not very healthy but is quick to grab and eat on the go. So take advantage of a sit down meal and order something healthy during this time. With sit down meals being few and far in between , make sure to really use this time for healthy foods. Most truck stop restaurants offer low carb and heart healthy choices on their menus.
Televisions and Laptops:
We use to have a television in our truck but now we just have a laptop. Both have worked great for the purpose of exercising. When we had the television in the truck I did not think to bring along any of my exercise tapes to put in the VCR. This time around I did bring my exercise DVD's to use in the laptop. I just place them in the laptop and away I go exercising right along with my favorite exercise program. This is one thing that can be done no matter what time frame you are on because you can work out while your truck driver does what he does best and that is drive. Just make sure to only bring tapes along with you that are mostly strengthening and toning work outs. Most aerobic workouts are not possible due to limited space. So stick with what you can do on the bed or just right in front of the bed.
Going and seeing the country with you special truck driver can be a great experience. The down side is the limited time to get any exercise and take care of yourself. So to avoid the downfalls that come with traveling with a truck driver, you need to take advantage of every opportunity you can to eat healthy and get physically active.
