Tips to a Stress Free Move

Moving doesn't ever seem to be fun. There's the excitement of moving on to a new household, but it comes with the drudgery of having to pack up and move all of your household belongings. It can be an incredibly stressful time as well, because most people that move have deadlines to keep. Moving long distance is extra hard, but it can be done with a little planning.

Here are some tips to help make your move as stress-free as possible!

Six weeks before your move date take a look at all of your belongings and decided what's moving on with you, and what can go. Take this time to get rid of the stuff you no longer need or want, and get organized.

Create a file to keep track of moving expenses and keep inventory of what you have.

Four weeks before your move, consider renting a portable storage unit. This will allow you to pack little by little, and keep your boxes out of your living space. You can start by packing "not needed" items such as knick-knacks or collectibles.

At roughly four weeks before the move, you'll want to notify your utility companies to arrange to disconnect and reconnect at the new location.

Remember to pack light items in bigger boxes and heavier items in smaller boxes to prevent backbreaking work. Mark each box with a list of its contents, and what room it is being moved into at your new location. Don't forget to mark the word "Fragile" on anything that might be breakable!

When you pack up the moving truck, pack the things you'll need first at the new location, last. Items such as bedding, toilet paper or clothing should come off the truck first, and you'll want it to be easily accessible.

Keep a first aid kit with you, or in an easily accessible location. Don't forget to pack the pain reliever; if you are moving long distance, you'll probably need it!

Take your pets and houseplants in the car or cab of the moving truck if you are driving to your new home.

By taking the time to plan ahead, you can save yourself a lot of stress when moving day comes closer. If you're moving long distance, remember the less you have to bring the easier it will be, so take the time to give away, or throw away, things you won't be needing. Moving can be an exciting thing, try to think of it positively and have a great moving experience!

Stress free and move are antonyms! But your suggestions would certainly reduce the stress. Good ideas.
