1. Keep Your Expectations Low
Blind dates go one of two ways, you will be paired up with someone that is surprisingly a good match, or you will have nothing in common and the date will turn awkward. Keep in mind that the person you are going on the date with may not be the most attractive person, or they may not be your type. However, it is important to keep an open mind because you never know what you will have in common.
2. Don't Write Your Date Off From the Beginning
If your date shows, up and is not what you were expecting you should always go on the date with an open mind. The person may not be your type or may be completely different from anyone you have ever dated in the past. You should not instantly write off your date, keep in mind that you are single and a blind date with someone different is only one date. First impressions can be misleading, especially if you have high standards before your date even shows up.
3. Choose a Fun but Neutral Dating Spot
The cliché restaurant, movie, or coffee shop dates are great for a blind date because they are typically in a casual setting and allow you to engage in conversation freely. The movies are a mixed choice, there is not a lot of conversation that can take place during the film, but afterwards consider going to a café and discussing the movie. Since you do not know the person you may have different interests, therefore a move is a great way to strike up conversation on neutral ground. Dates that involve activities that can be discussed afterwards are always fun and relieves some of the awkwardness because gives common ground discussion.
4. Keep the Conversation Neutral
Since you do not know your date beforehand, you do not know their political views, or takes on controversial issues. Keep the conversation neutral and get to know your date. If the first date goes well you can set up a second date to discuss tougher topics.
5. Double Date
Blind dates are nerve racking enough, especially if you are not good at striking up conversation with a complete stranger. Try going on a double date with a mutual friend, such as the one that set you two up. The double date takes a lot of pressure off the date, and if you two have chemistry, try doing a solo second date.
