This wearisome process of traveling can make even the most seasoned travelers rethink that next vacation. But taking time off from the daily grind is essential to our well being. Its not always just about taking time to get away but taking time to refresh the mind and soul.
That is why many people are turning to staycations.
A staycation is a fancy word for staying at home when your vacation time comes around. Instead of taking that vacation abroad you save money and time and troubles by having a vacation at home. A staycation can be just as fun and relaxing but without all the hassle or cost of a normal vacation. No time spent traveling or planning - you go straight from work to the relaxing and rejuvenating.
Here are some handy tips to make a staycation a real vacation.
Staycation vacation tip # 1 - Treat it like a real vacation.
That means putting away your normal tasks and gadgets. Step away from the computer, phone, e-mail, etc. like you would on a real vacation. The point is to disconnect from the normal hustle and bustle of life. Plan the nontrip in advance and let others know that during your week off you won't be replying - an "away" message can take care of that.
Staycation vacation tip # 2 - Get lost nearby.
Since the most adventure and excitement on a vacation happens when you discover things off course, take the time to do the same thing at home during your staycation. Explore someplace new in your town or check out a neighboring town you haven't visited yet. Every little town has its own "attractions" that you can explore. At the very least go for a drive without GPS and see what you can find when you get lost.
Staycation vacation tip # 3 - See the sights in town.
It never fails that on vacations we visit every church, museum, and historic site possible, but rarely notice the ones at home. Act like a tourist in your own city and explore the resident art museums, galleries, monuments, and museums. Check out what it is that brings tourists to your city. Chances are you will find as much to enjoy as they do.
Staycation vacation tip # 4 - Pamper yourself.
We like to pamper ourselves at fancy spas while we are on vacation. You can get the same treatments locally (and probably cheaper) during your staycation. Book a facial, or schedule a deep-tissue massage at a local day spa. Spend some time in the steam room just relaxing. Or head to a local salon and get your hair professionally washed and styled. The pampering will make you feel special and reenergize you.
Staycation vacation tip # 5 - Sleep in every day.
The best part of a vacation is not waking up early for work. So plan for the kids to be taken care of in the morning, pull down the shades, mute the phone and all distractions, and take advantage of the greatest luxury of all: sleeping in.
