Tips to Successfully Keep Your New Year's Resolutions!

Theresa L.
It is a tradition for many individuals to start the New Year off with a resolution or two. Unfortunately, not everyone will succeed in keeping their New Year's wish. However, there are steps you can take to make sure your New Year's resolution is successful.

1) Do not just make a resolution but create a working plan. Having a sound plan in mind will aid you in succeeding this year, whether your goal is to quit smoker or to lose weight. Your plan should include things you could do or should do, as well as, steps to help you complete your goal.

2) Your goal is not just for New Year's but for the whole entire year. This is an important key to success because you are not planning for one day but for a whole entire year. This means that you have from January 1st until December 31st to complete your goal. That is a long to ensure you succeed.

You may want to quit after one failed attempt, and that is why this step is important to remember.

3) Give yourself smaller goals as well as big goals. Losing weight, quitting smoking, and even a promotion are all goals that can be hard to achieve. When a person fails, they may feel discourage and want to give up. That is why it is important to give yourself smaller goals at the same time.

By having one or two small goals, like maybe learning how to bake a cake or read a book, you are achieving one of your goals and giving yourself a moral boost to achieve any other goals you may have.

4) Reward yourself for the little things you accomplish. If you lose 10 pounds out of 30 or drop from smoking 2 packs of cigarettes down to 1, then you have accomplished something with your goals. Reward yourself for your success and keep up the good work.

5) Do not get discourage. It is easy to say but harder to do. There will be times that you will want to break from your resolution and have a smoke or eat a cake, but no matter what, the key to remember is failure only comes when you quit!

Happy New Year Everyone!
