Tips For Summer Beach Safety

Family visits to the beach can be exciting and fun. Kids enjoy the water, the sand, and just being outdoors. However, going to the beach can also be dangerous. Outdoor public areas are no longer safe havens. Risks are around every corner. There are many things you can do to avoid any problematic situations on your vacation.

Never let your children leave your sight. Child predators often look for places where families gather. They carefully lurk and watch for the easiest target. You may feel safe knowing that you are just a call away. However, most predators watch the parents and look for the perfect time to catch you off guard. It does not take long for a predator to snatch a child away. Teach your children to look for warning signs. Practice what the child should do if they are ever in that situation.

Drowning occurs often, even with children who can swim. All children should take swimming lessons. Floaties are recommended, but do not rely on them to take care of your child. Floaties will not save your child from drowning. Be watchful of currents in the water. Do not let your children get too far away from you. Make sure your child is prepared and knows what to do in stressful situations. Teach your child the correct way to respond to any water emergency.

Beaches are a hot spot for litter. Trash, broken bottles, and other metal objects can pierce the skin easily. Have your child wear protective footwear when walking on the beach. A cheap pair of flip-flops will go a long way to protect the feet from any foreign objects. Teach your children not to touch any objects that may be contaminated with blood. Always carry a small kit of antibiotic ointment and bandages in case an emergency does arise.

Sunburn can easily be prevented with sunscreen. Protect your child's delicate skin with an SPF of 15 or higher. Even on cloudy days, the sun can produce harmful rays. Cover your child with a t-shirt or a wrap when they are not in the water.

A visit to the beach can leave you with wonderful memories to cherish for a long time. The beach is a hot vacation spot for most families. Beaches can be dangerous, from the water to the sand. Prevent harmful situations by empowering your children with knowledge. Teach them the risks and you will all be able to enjoy your family vacation time together.
