Once you know the two teams you are going to be playing go out and buy decorations in the teams colors. You may want to set up two tables for food and snacks and then decorate each table in one of the teams colors. You can have paper table cloths and napkins. Paper plates and cutlery along with plastic cups. If you really want to go crazy throw some sparkly glitter in your teams color on the table and light some candles (make sure the candles are non-scented as you do not want them to interfere with the food). While I am not a big fan of paper products due to their impact on the environment sometimes you just have to say what the hell and go for it, you want to have a good time with your guests just remember to recycle.
Along with decorating the tables you can also use the food you serve to be part of as Sandra Lee would say the table scape. Serve the chips and dip in a football shaped bowl. Buy cupcakes that have been decorated to look like little footballs almost every supermarket that has it's own bakery now offers this option. If you want to make your own it is easy. Chocolate frosting on the cupcakes and a few lines of white frosting going across the middle criss crossing to look like a football. If you have kids or a husband or brother who use to play football get out their old football helmet and put it on the table. You can also buy cheap plastic helmets that represent the two teams competing for the championship.
If you really want to go crazy and spice up the party ask your guests to get dressed up as their favorite football player and/or cheerleader a friendly warning this may cause your guests to focus more on each other then the game so pay attention and keep the door to your bedroom locked.
Other options think high school prom. Crepe paper, disco balls, crazy eighties music in the background. Remember this is a party for a sports game. It is not as if you are entertaining the heads of State. Have fun, offer booze but take keys, have your own little illegal gambling pool(if no one wins the money goes to a charity) and remember it really is just a game.
