The corporate hiring process will typically include several rounds of interviews. Depending on the organization, the hiring process will include interviews with the human resources department and/or several members of the hiring organization. Many companies are moving towards "panel interviews," in which several managers in the hiring group interview the prospective employee. These interviews may be completed on-site or by telephone, depending on the proximity of the candidate to the potential employer. If the candidate lives far from the job site, initial interviews are most likely to be completed by phone, with subsequent interviews at the job site.
Before entering any interviews, the applicant should complete research about the company to have an understanding of what the corporate goals are and what types of challenges the organization is facing. The candidate should weave this information into answers given throughout the hiring process. This will allow the organization to know that the applicant has considered what his or her role would be in the group and will certainly impress those involved in the hiring process. The candidate should also have one or two questions to ask those completing the interview, as there is usually time allocated for applicant questions at the end of an interview.
The corporate hiring process may also consist of standardized tests designed specifically for the hiring corporation. These standardized tests are typically timed, multiple choice tests which allow organizations to measure problem-solving and other sought after skills. Drug tests and background checks are also often part of the corporate hiring process. Organizations will typically complete background checks (including a check on a candidate's credit history) towards the beginning of the hiring process, while drug tests are usually completed after a job offer is given.
The final thing to remember throughout the corporate hiring process is to be patient! The corporate hiring process can be long and tedious, with many parts for each applicant to complete. Thus, it may take months to make it all the way through a company's hiring process. Take heart, though, as all candidates are going through the same tedious corporate hiring process.
