The first and most important thing is to remember what the holidays are really about. Gifts and extravagant meals are always nice but the most important thing is being with the ones you love and care most in the world. Without them in your life you would not bother with the holidays, for most it would be just another day.
Having fun is also important. There are many things you can do to have fun right at home. During the holiday season it has been natural for many people to take a vacation, whether it was to go skiing or to a beach. This year try doing something completely different and just as exciting. Finding activities to do at home can be a very cost effective way to have fun. This can not always be helped if your family lives far away. Instead of flying consider driving or going by train, make an adventure out of it. If you have family all in one state but scatter about you can also try meeting at the relatives house who is in the middle, giving equal driving time to all family members.
Meal time is another way to cut back. Instead of catering to the entire family suggest a potluck dinner. If you have a large family you could have a feast made for a king if each member brought a special dish to the table. Another thing you can do to help ease the dinner meal is to start a new tradition, especially if you have a small family. Have each member name there favorite dish and make that dish especially for them.
Another tip for the holiday season is to create your own gifts or draw names. Another tip for gift giving is give only to the kids, they are the ones we really celebrate the holidays for. Doing either of these things will take loads of stress off your back on trying to find the money or even the right gift for everyone.
The holidays are special time of year and because of that they are the most stressful. Trying to find the money to come up with gifts, activities, food can be challenging and painful for most families. None of this matters though as long as the family is together and you have fun.
