Tips to Take the Biggest Stress of All Off for the Holidays--Shopping

Julie Boehlke
The holidays are coming around the corner, and will be here before you know it. Have you put in thought about what to get your significant other, or maybe just a friend of the opposite sex? We all know that it's not going out and getting the present that's dreadful; it's figuring out what to get them.

With guys, it may be a little more hard to find something that they're going to like, or even use from time to time. With girls, we aren't that hard to shop for; clothes, jewelry, or even a teddy bear will put a smile on our face. If you really want to put some time and thought into the perfect present, think about a few of these tips: What kind of individual is the person you're shopping for? What are their hobbies, favorite music, clothing brand, maybe even a favorite store?

Definitely the first thing to put in mind is to put yourself in that persons shoes; think about what they may be wanting to get. When you think outside of the box, it will put a hold on stressing out while you're shopping. Taking the easy way out of a gift would be getting them a card with bills in it, or a gift card to the mall. You want to make your gift look thoughtful, and look like you took more time out of your day to make them happy. Think of money and gift cards as your last resort.

Shopping for guys; girls, we've all been there. This shouldn't be a drag, it should be exciting knowing that you can put a big smile on your husbands, boyfriends, or friends' face for the holidays. If you know who your shopping for quite well; think of their average day, what do they do or use? If you're the one who really likes to surprise, avoid 'hinting' questions at all costs. Ask someone who is close to your guy; to see if they were the ones hinting for something special. Here are some gift idea starters, for the guys:

DVDS-We all love movies! Maybe a new release he's been talking about? Even a few seasons on DVD of his favorite show would be thoughtful.
Magazine subscriptions-Ah, the gift that keeps on giving. Everyone likes to take some time to read about something they love. Help him out and subscribe to a magazine that pertains to something he loves.

Video Games/Game consoles-Every guy has a little gamer in him. Think of some of the things he enjoys that interprets into a video game. Or have you noticed him raving on about new games that come out soon?

Hobbies and Interests-Think of what he likes to do in his spare time and think of something creative. Does he enjoy music? Buy a stereo or stereo equipment. Into cars? Get him a calendar or maybe even some coffee table coasters with his favorite car model printed on it.

As for shopping with girls, this could be a very long list, but I'll make it short and sweet, yet still getting the point across. Girls love the little things that matter the most. Don't feel like you need to go all out to win her heart or make her happy:

Clothes-You could surprise her by showing up at her house and treating her to a few or more outfits at the mall!

Jewelry-Maybe not for everyone. But jewelry does go on sale during the holidays, snagging a good deal with a beautiful necklace or bracelet will make her feel loved.

Stuffed Animals-Remember the little things that matter the most? This is it, if you don't want to go 'all out' for the holidays, get her a cute stuffed penguin, or maybe even a teddy bear--she'll treasure it.

CD's-Think of her favorite type of music. If you really want to make her happy (daters/spouses)--pick out the CD with 'your song' on it.

Easier said than done? Maybe. But try out a few of these tips, and you may feel a little more relieved. Pick out something big and meaningful, or maybe something small with the biggest meaning of all, and top it off with a bow and a holiday card. Good luck!

Good tips - but my nephews would prefer gift cards! Apparently I don't know them well enough, and also don't know what CDs and DVDs they may have acquired since the last time I saw them! I strive for personal, but sometimes it's just too hard (especially when broke!)
