Tip 1 - Before you attempt to do any type of work to your lawn, you will want to start out by taking the time to make sure that your lawn is clean. This could mean taking the time to clean your lawn of such things as leaves and debris. After this has been done, you will want to walk around your yard to look for any trouble areas that need immediate attention. Pay special attention to things like weeds, bare spots and areas that may need to be compacted.
Tip 2 - Take a sample of the soil in your yard and have it analyzed. This will alert you to any potential soil problems that may need to be addressed.
Tip 3 - Make sure that your lawn does not contain an excessive amount of thatch. If it does, it will need to be removed, because too much thatch in your lawn will promote a shallow root system that will not be able to survive in dry weather.
Tip 4 - Make sure that you are growing the correct type of grass for the area in which you live. You will also want to make sure that you are following the proper irrigation schedule that applies to your turf grass variety.
Tip 5 -It is always a good thing to water your lawn deep in the early morning. One of the main benefits of watering your lawn deep is that it will allow the water to reach the roots, giving you a strong healthy lawn.
Tip 6 - Make sure that your always mow your grass to the proper height with a mower that has a sharp blade. You should never cut off more than one third of the blade when mowing, because the grass in your yard needs the surface area of the blade to sustain it. If your remove too much of the blade, you will create the perfect environment for different diseases to come in.
Tip 7 - Make sure that you prune any trees or shrubs in your yard to the proper length because this will allow for the tree to receive the proper amount of sun and air. The main benefits of the proper amount of sunshine and air are to encourage your plant to grow, while cutting down on the growth of diseases.
Tip 8 - Take the time to inspect your lawn on a regular basis, paying special attention to diseases, insects and weeds. If you learn to spot and take care of any problems quickly, you will save yourself a lot of time and effort in the future.
