If you have just bought your child a frog or are thinking about buying your child a frog, you will need to know how to take care of the frog and what the frog needs. In this guide, you will find tips on how to care of your pet frog. So, if you have a frog in the home or are fixing to get one, continue reading for help with taking care of your frog.
Tip 1 - Find Out What Kind of Frog It Is
The first thing you should do is find out what kind of frog it is that you are getting or have. There are aquatic frogs and non-aquatic frogs. The aquatic frogs will need to remain in water at all times, where as non-aquatic frogs do not have to live in water at all times.
Tip 2 - Build Your Frog's Tank
The kind of tank you are going to build will depend on the type of frog you have. An aquatic frog will need a tank of water. A non-aquatic frog can have part of the tank dirt and rocks and the other part water. That will give the frog an option of being on dry land or in the water. When you build the tank, it is important to put rocks and things the frog can jump around on. You will even want to put rocks in a tank full of water. You can also put decorations in the tank that the frog can hop around on.
Tip 3 - Do Not Use Gravel
A big no no is using gravel in your tank. Some people will put the gravel in the bottom of the tank for decorations and because they have seen other people do it. Please do not put gravel in your tank because it will kill your frog. Frogs like to eat the gravel for some reason and when they eat it, they will get sick and die. So, don't use gravel for frog tanks.
Tip 4 - Screen the Top of the Tank
Another thing you will want to do is put a screen cover over the top of your tank. Frogs do jump and they can jump right out of their tanks. So, it is best to use a screen cover to cover the tank tightly. The reason for using a screen cover is to give the frog plenty of ventilation.
Tip 5 - Do Not Mix Breeds
One thing you do not want to do is put different breeds of frogs in the same tank. If you do this, the frogs are more than likely going to try and eat each other and one of them will probably end up dead.
Tip 6 - Feed Your Frog the Appropriate Food
The last tip on my list is to feed your frog the appropriate food. Which food is appropriate for your frog will depend on the breed of frog you are getting. So, when you purchase the frog, ask the person you are buying it from what to feed it. That will give you an idea of what to feed the frog so you don't harm it with food that it shouldn't have.
