Tips on Taking a Religious Approach to Reduce Stress Caused by Ulcerative Colitis

Finding out that I had ulcerative colitis was a shock. I was very angry for a long time. Since then, I have come to realize that my ulcerative colitis is not a punishment.

I pray to deal with my stress that is associated with ulcerative colitis. A good friend reminded me one day that the negative things that happen to us in life are simply God's way of showing us how to appreciate the positive things.

The Bible says that all things work together for the glory of God. I know that this includes my ulcerative colitis. God knows that I can handle this condition. I know this because the Bible also says that God will never ask us to handle things that we can't handle.

I put my faith in God to help me deal with my stress and my ulcerative colitis. It is truly amazing.

I can remember my grandmother telling me that when her arthritis was giving her problems, she would ask God to allow her suffering to help others. I think that God did this.

Now, when I am stressed out because of my ulcerative colitis, I go to a quiet corner and ask God to use my stress to help others. I don't usually ask God to take my stress away. I ask Him to use it for the good of others. Simply asking God to do this usually relaxes me. I make sure to think of others that my stress may be helping.

When I pray, I also have a chance to think of those who are less fortunate than me. I think of those people who don't have a way to get treatment for their diseases. This makes my situation seem much better. That, in turn, causes me to be less stressed out.

I read the Bible a lot and it seems that when I read the Bible I can't stay stressed out. God has so many good things in store for us. He truly does know best. When I think of these things, it is impossible for me to stay stressed out.

If you believe in God and read the Bible, and I mean truly believe and reflect on the Bible, you will soon notice that your stress will melt away.

Focusing on God through prayer and reading the Bible is the only way that I have found that really helps me to deal with stress caused by my ulcerative colitis. Sure, things like meditation and exercise work but, they only work short term and then the same stress is back. God takes my stress away completely.
