With Spring just around the corner and Summer not far off, the ideal time to take your toddler on their first day fishing trip is almost here. Taking toddlers on day fishing trips is both fun and exciting for not only them, but for you as well. However, traveling with toddlers is never an easy task. You can make the fishing trips much easier with a few simple tips. Following these tips will ensure you're prepared and have the safest trip possible.

Be Prepared!

Before you head off on a day fishing trip with your toddler, make sure you're well prepared. Make sure you pack plenty of snacks and drinks for both you and your toddler. Pack plenty of healthy and filling snacks to keep your toddler happy. Fresh and dried fruit, as well as granola bars, are great to take. Make sure there's plenty of water for the both of you.

Take a diaper bag with you as well. Make sure you double check the diaper bag because you don't want to head out on your trip and realize you forgot something. When packing the diaper bag, make sure you put at least one extra pair of clothes in the bag for your toddler. Chances are, if your toddler goes near the water, they will be getting wet--whether you want them to or not.

Before you leave, check the weather. Even if you've checked the weather the previous day, make sure you check before you leave. You don't want to be caught off guard by an unexpected storm. If it looks like a sunny day ahead, make sure you bring a sweater for your toddler just in case.

Safety First!

Safety must always be kept in mind when taking your toddler on day fishing trips. It's vital your toddler has a lifejacket that fits properly. Never allow a toddler on a boat without a life jacket. It only takes a second for an accident to happen. A lifejacket's an absolute must!

If you plan on going on a boat, make sure it's toddler proof. Your toddler will be confined in a small area and that's just asking for toddler trouble. Make sure all bait, hooks, and anything else potentially dangerous to a toddler's out of reach.

Take plenty of sunscreen along with you. Even if it's cloudy outside a toddlers sensitive skin can still get sunburned. Make sure you take water proof sunscreen with you and apply it to yourself and your toddler frequently.

When you take a toddler with you, you must also take a first aid kit. Scraped knees and bumped heads can never be prevented. It's best to make sure you've at least a basic first aid kit with you when going on a fishing trip.
