Tips and Trick for Money Trees on Second Life

H. Smith
In the real world, many times it has been said that, "Money doesn't grow on trees." In the virtual world of Second Life, that statement it completely false - money really does grow on trees. These trees are put out by land owners to help out new members by giving a few Lindens (L$), which is the currency in Second Life. The majority of these trees are only usable by members less than 30 days old, but some are available up to 60 days old, and a few rare examples exists that have no age limit. So how do you get the most out of these trees?

To use the money trees, you simply have to find them, and pick the money off of them by clicking on it. Although there are variations, most will have dollar bills, apples, oranges, and bananas. Each one is worth a different amount, set by the trees owner. To find out how much each is worth, click on the podium with the name of the tree above it, and it will say in a chat message each of the values assigned.

Around Second Life, you will find several different types of money trees. One of the more common ones are the Wolfhaven Money Trees. Many other types are out there, but these seem to me to be the most prevalant. Some of these are linked together in what is called the Golden Apple Program. A small protion donated to these trees are put into a pool that is given away on one randon tree in a golden apple.

Several people have made lists to find these trees. Many of these lists are free and rarely will you ever find one that is totally accurate and up to date. This is because of the ever-changing nature of business in Second Life. Land owners may ony have them up for a limited time or may move them. A perfectly updated list is practically impossible. One of my personal recommendations is the Wolfhaven Moneytree Golden Apple lists. (http://moneytree.wolfhavenproductions.com/) It is free and includes all of the trees that contrbute to the Golden Apple and is one of the most well-updated list around.

To gain the most help from these generous people's tree, there are a few things you can do. First, don't wait to start visiting them. Not only will you get a few Lindens to spend on stuff for yourself, you will also get to see new places and meet some new people. Also, do not wait for the trees to "grow" more money. Some of these trees will take as much as 90 minutes between new money that it will grow. Another thing you can do is buy a small amount of Lindens. I believe that the smalles tamount you can spend is $2.50 which is about L$650. This will give you access to some trees that are set to only residents that have their payment information on file and used. Since many people do not do this the first few weeks they are members (and you don't have to at all), you will sometimes find trees with as much as L$60 in them.

Remember that the people that have put up these money trees are doing so because they are generous. If you see some interesting place, remember to help support it by telling your friends and shopping there. Don't take advantage of these nice people or they may stop offering this great service. Most importantly, have fun.
