Tips and Tricks to Help Deal with Night Sweats

John Smith
For those suffering from night sweats, dealing with them can prove to be quite a challenge. "Hot Flushes" is another term for night sweats. This condition invariably results in a person waking up at night with a start, drenched in perspiration. The person finds relief only after wiping off this sweat. A change of clothes as also bed sheets is often required. When a stuffy environment has caused night sweats, opening up the windows if possible can greatly help in relaxing the person. Whereas night sweats caused by excessive heat in the environment are easy to handle, those that have a far more deep-rooted cause are a matter of concern.

Night sweats is a condition found in both adults and children too. They often occur due to some underlying medical condition. A health care worker familiar with the medical history of the patient can determine the cause. These can range from Cancer, Tuberculosis, Cardiac Problems to AIDS and Hyperthyroidism. Hormonal fluctuations and Menopause can also bring with them night sweats. For those who have to resort to steroids for treatment night sweats is a very common occurrence. Several home remedies can relieve the symptoms of night sweats.

Consuming oil free diet, free from spices, can greatly reduce the incidence of night sweats. It is best to avoid caffeine and alcohol. A regular practice of Deep Breathing and Meditation can calm the system and thereby reduce night sweats over a period. Several herbs are found to have a cooling effect on the body. Amongst these is the humble fennel. In one cup of boiling water, add half teaspoon of fennel seed powder. One teaspoon of sugar may be added to this if desired. Let the drink cool and then drink. This drink is a great refresher. This should be had two or three times in the day. Over a period of time the incidence of night sweats shall be greatly reduced.

Another remedy would be to have black raisins soaked over night. These soaked raisins should be consumed in the morning. It is also advisable to drink the water in which these raisins have been soaked. Keep an ice pack handy. When one breaks out into night sweats just hold the ice pack close to ones' body and in a few seconds the body shall cool down.
