There are some basic tips every new camcorder owner needs to know. To help get you started on the right foot, here are 5 guidelines you should follow.
Get To Know Your New Camcorder..... Every good artist or craftsman gets to know and understand their tools. The more you learn to understand your camcorder, the better product you'll produce with it. Take the time to read through the user manual and get to know where all the controls are. Master how to turn it off and on, and how to switch modes quickly. Often times a good opportunity to film something happens fast. You'll want to ready when that chance comes along. Spend an afternoon on one of your days off from work taking some video. You'll enjoy that new camcorder a lot more, once you master how to use it!
Steady as She Goes..... In order to shoot a great video, you'll have to learn how to hold that baby steady. This is one of the biggest mistakes an amatuer makes. Unless you're shooting with a tri-pod, you'll need to hold your camcorder with both hands. If you can, brace yourself up against a fence or wall. Otherwise you will end up with a shaky video. Nothing will kill a good video more than a shaky camcorder! Some of the better camcorders have an anti-shake mechanism to help reduce this. But even with that feature, you will still need to hold it with both hands and brace yourself. As you use your new toy more and more, it will become more natural to hold it steady.
Shoot With The Right Light..... Another big mistakes that amatuers make. Unlike the human eye, which can adjust rather quickly to low level lighting conditions, you camcorder will not. When you are able to, shoot outdoors in the sunlight. If you are doing a video indoors, you'll need a lot of light. Feel free to turn on all the available lights in the room. Depending on the situation, extra lights may be needed. Your videos will look much sharper when done with adequate lighting.
Be in The Backround..... Another basic mistake of amatuers is, sticking the camcorder right up in your subjects face. Most people get nervous when they are put on the spot like that. You'll find your subjects to be more relaxed if they are less aware of you filming them. A great way to help people feel more comfortable, is to let them play with the camcorder for a moment or so. Let them film you for a bit. They will be much more at ease after knowing a little bit more about how it works. Don't worry about the extra video they take, you can simply edit it out later. This method works excellent with children. Most kids get a kick out of playing with a camcorder. Your going to get a much better end result, when you learn how to blend in with the backround of the party or family reunion. And your subjects will be more relaxed too!
Editing Your Video..... Whatever your taking a video of, always get as much as you can. Now that your done shooting, make good use of the video editing software. This is where you get to take out those parts, where you let someone else play with your camcorder. Also, if your video was a party or family reunion, be sure to take your family members feelings into consideration. There may be a part in there that you think is hilarious, however they may not agree with you. Be sure to edit those parts out of the end product. The last thing you want to do, is offend a close relative over a family video.
These tips on using your new camcorder will help get you off to a fast start. The better you get with it, the more joy it will bring to your life. So get to know your new toy, it will bring lasting memories to you and your loved ones for many years to come.
