Tips for Using Less Water with Your Washing Machine

Don't be one of those people who keeps their washing machine's water level setting on "extra large load" no matter how big your load of laundry is. Follow these tips to learn how to use less water and save energy with your washing machine, which will lower your water bill and save you some extra spending money come bill day.

1. If you don't want to wait until you have a full large load of laundry to wash your clothes, gauge the size of your load to know what water level setting your washing machine should be on. Doing so will help you your washing machine to use less water, energy and save you money. Most washing machines have four to five water level settings ranging from extra small to extra large. Why throw money down the drain by using a high amount of water and wasting energy if you're only washing a few articles of clothing?

2. Consider having family members re-use their bath towels after showering instead of washing them every time. When you come out of the shower, you shouldn't be dirty anyway! Hang the towel up and save yourself the water, the time and the energy from your dryer later by re-using bath towels. Towels are a big part of laundry loads, as they take up a lot of room. Using them again will save a significant amount of water and save energy since you won't be using your washing machine as much.

3. Consider investing in one of the newer washing machine models that offers water and energy saving capabilities. There are washing machines that use only 2/3 of the water that old washing machines use. There are also incentives that you can receive from your local water facilities and even from the government by upgrading to new energy saving washing machines to save water.

Saving money and saving water are two great goals to have, and doing so can not only save you extra spending money, but also help our environment and help preserve water where there are water shortages.
