Tips on Using PC Stitch 9 Software - Used to Create Cross Stitch Designs

From Photos to Cross Stitch, Learn More About PC Stitch 9

Several years ago I tried converting a wedding photo into a cross stitch pattern. It was a tedious process and did not turn out well. Since time had passed, I decided to try creating my own cross stitch patterns again. To my pleasant surprise I received a conversion software program for Christmas called PC Stitch 9. This article shares some tips on how to work with PC Stitch 9 when creating your own cross stitch pattern from a photo.

Photos of people treat shadows as olive complexions. At first it is best to avoid portrait cross stitch patterns. However, I have found great success with photos of animals.

My first creation was converting a photo of our sleeping kitten. To do so, I first edited my photo to a small square image using a different program. Next, I chose "Import" from the PC Stitch 9 menu and chose which size of project I wanted to create. Larger patterns allowed for greater photo details to be brought into the design. I attempted several times to make a pattern I thought resembled my kitten. However, the details were not appearing. After awhile I removed the "blend color" option. This did the trick, leaving details of his cute, shut eyes for stitching enjoyment.

The software includes many options for viewing the pattern, including a final stitched version. It is possible to print the chart in color or black and white. It provides an excellent key, and allowed me to insert text with a large selection of fonts. I was really impressed with the coding and color choices the software used, and the inventory printout helped me to easily buy the flosses I needed.

I would recommend PC Stitch 9 for anyone who wants to design their own cross stitch patterns. It takes some practice to learn the nuances of the software, but the potential for this software is astounding.
