Tips for Using Twitter to Find Freebies

How to Find Freebies on Twitter

Carly Hart
With the economy such as it is, signing up for free items is one way to help stretch your budget. Even small samples can help stretch your budget because whatever you receive in the mail for free is something that you didn't have to purchase. Social media is exploding and brands wanting to reach a larger audience are using twitter. Use these four tips to find freebies on twitter so that you can cash in on a growing consumer trend.

Search: Use the twitter search feature to search for freebies by typing in search phrases such as "Facebook freebie" and "free sample". These two search phrases should turn up a good number of results, though you'll see some repeats. Searching for freebies this way also will turn you onto bloggers who tweet out free sample links. These are people you will want to follow, as many times freebies are open for a limited time only.

Follow freebie bloggers: Once you find a blogger who tweets out information about freebies, make sure you follow them and keep them in a list that you follow closely. Hootsuite is one application that you can use to separate your twitter friends into more manageable lists. Create a column where you list your favorite freebie bloggers and keep abreast of freebies on the net that way.

Follow the brands you love: If you are brand loyal, be sure to follow them on twitter. As companies build their brand on social media, they often offer special deals or free samples on twitter. Sometimes they even run contests, where you retweet messages or answer questions to secure a free product. Keeping tabs on your favorite brands on twitter can mean freebies for you.

Check out contests: Bloggers and brands love to promote giveaways via twitter. Search for giveaways as sometimes they include free product coupons. Search for "giveaway" or "win free coupon" to ferret out hidden opportunities for a chance at a freebie. Increase your chances in such contests by completing the most entries that you can, which often includes tweeting out the contest link yourself.

Searching for freebies on twitter shouldn't take only a few moments each day. I of the four strategies above, I highly recommend following freebie bloggers since they love to share a good deal on twitter. Free samples often are accompanied by money saving coupons, so they are well worth signing up for when you find one that fits your needs.
