Tips for Visiting Disney World During Halloween

Halloween at Disney World

Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida is a great place for families to celebrate Halloween. Walt Disney World kicks off their Halloween festivities starting in early September by decorating the Magic Kingdom with Halloween themed decorations including carved pumpkins, scarecrows, and orange flowers.

The number one Halloween attraction at Walt Disney World is Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. The party runs from seven pm to midnight on select dates through September and October. Tickets range from $39.95 to $55.95. The price may seem high but in my opinion it is well worth it. Party goers enjoy a Halloween themed parade called Mickey's Boo to You, Hallowishes fireworks, Trick-or-Treating, Villain Meet and Greets, and Dance Parties. The park is also less crowded during the party because only a set number of tickets are sold. Call 407-W-Disney or visit Disneyworld.com for more ticket & party information.

Mickey's Boo to You parade happens twice during the party. My tip is to watch the second parade because it is usually less crowded. The parade starts at Frontierland and works its way towards Main Street. Most people like to watch the parade from Main Street but I prefer watching from Frontierland. For one you will have less of a wait since you are at the beginning of the parade. Plus as soon as the parade passes you, you can hop on nearby rides that are less crowded since most guests are still watching the parade.

Disney's firework extravaganza for the party is called Hallowishes and starts at 9:30 pm. The fireworks are great and usually last about 20 minutes. If you aren't a big fan of fireworks, show time is another great time to hop on rides with most having no wait times since everyone is watching the fireworks. I would suggest not missing the show though because it is truly spectacular.

Another great feature of the party is trick-or-treating. Guests are given Trick or Treat bags when they enter the park. Numerous candy locations are set-up throughout the park for kids and adults to trick or treat at. Guests can visit the location more then once so there is no limit on how much candy guests can collect. My suggestion is to bring an extra bag or backpack to store your candy in if you want a lot of candy. The small trick or treat bags can fill up quickly so I always bring an extra bag to dump my candy in. You can always ask a cast member for another trick or treat bag too. My favorite part of trick or treating is that adults are encouraged to trick or treat too. This is great for guests without children, like me. Disney is truly a wonderful place for people of all ages.

I love Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party but if you are looking for a less costly night, Disney does offer free Trick or Treating at Downtown Disney on October 30th and October 31st. Downtown Disney is a shopping complex located at the Walt Disney World Resort which does not require tickets for admission. Visitors can trick or treat around the Downtown Disney Stores from 5 to 9 pm.
