Tips for Wearing Scarves in Natural Hair

When my springlettes aren't cooperating I like to think of it as having a "challenging" hair day instead of a "bad" hair day. And sometimes I rise to the challenge by finding a cute way to tie a scarf in my hair. There are a few different ways that I use scarves to accentuate my hairdo or to compensate for an off day.

Variety is the Key
Wearing scarves can be tricky because you can wind up looking like you're trying to cover up a challenging hair day. But there are ways to leave the house looking good with a scarf on your head. First, make sure that you have several beautiful scarves to choose from. It's a good idea to have some neutral colors that will go with almost any outfit. Also, you may want to have scarves in different lengths and sizes to add additional variety to your hairstyle.

Use the Scarf Like a Headband
Most days I wear a wash and go hairstyle because they are quick and low maintenance. But sometimes the hair around my face just doesn't look quite right no matter what I try. So, I'll wet my hair in the front and apply a little gel. Then I take a scarf and fold it so that is becomes long and thin. Then I position the scarf in my hair like a hairband and tie it in the back. That way my hair is flat and tidy in the front. And my springlettes are nicely accented by a stylish scarf.

Completely Cover Your Head
But let me be honest here. Some days there is no hope for my hair. Rewetting it or restyling it isn't going to help. On those days I resort to covering my entire head with a scarf. It is helpful to choose a very nice scarf that matches your outfit if you opt for this method. And I tie it in a way that is flattering.

With a little patience and some practice you can make scarves in your hair work for you. Scarves aren't just for challenging hair days but they are a definite help if you are having a tough time with your hair and need a quick fix.
