Tips on Where to Stay in Mexico City

Chris Chen
Choosing from all of the hotels in Mexico City can be a daunting task. Hopefully, I can make your job of just enjoying the city a little easier. In this guide, I will look at all the choice places to stay the night. Though Mexico City is enormous, most of the hotels are clustered into a few areas. One that holds a large percentage of the hotels is Colonia Polanco. You will discover many of the familiar corporate brands such as the Hilton hotel. In the shopping district Zona Rosa, you can also find some hotels. These tend to have restaurants and shops lining the streets around them. Business travelers often book most major hotels in Mexico Cities during the week so you will be hard pressed to find one. However, finding one during the weekends is easier as most businesspeople will want to be home for the weekend. I will separate this tutorial into zones.

1. Centro Historico features a wide selection of hotels.

Holiday Inn Zolaco. This hotel has premiere access to museums, restaurants , and historical hotspots due to its impeccable location. However, you may not spend much time at the hotel or eating the food because it is on par with a typical Holiday Inn. You will have access to Wi-Fi, room service, 2 resturants, bar, and gym.

Sheraton Centro Historico. The Sheraton resembles a vacation home. It is complete with a stocked in-room kitchen and is about as good in terms of location as the Holiday Inn. However, in order to access the gym and Wi-Fi, you will need to pay an additional fee. This hotel has 3 restaurants, bar, pool, gym, spa, and even concierge service.

Gran Hotel de la Ciudad de Mexico. This hotel comes with one of the best restaurants in the entire city. A stay at this hotel encompasses access to 3 restaurants, room service, bar, gym, spa, and concierge service.

2. Midtown

Embassy Suites Hotel. The Embassy Suites hosts evening receptions in which guests may choose to indulge in snacks and drinks while discussing the sights and city in general. Rooms are comfortable, often featuring king and queen sized beds and large flat screens. There is only 1 restaurant in the hotel, along with a bar, pool, gym, and spa.

Four Seasons Mexico City. This hotel is one of top hotels in the entire city. It features a fountain and architecture hearkening back to the 18th century. On weekends, you can even receive free tours of the city. However, you have to pay extra for amenities.

3. Zona Rosa

Galeria Plaza. This hotel is located on a rare quiet spot in the city but is surrounded by shops and restaurants. All the rooms are fresh and clean and you will find room service, bar, pool, gym, concierge, and a laundry service there.

Hotel Geneve. Defined by colonial style furniture, rooms are modest but adequate. This hotel is located exactly in the middle of the Zona Rosa. Room service, bar, gym, spa, and laundry services are available.

4. Polanco

W. This was the very first W hotel established in Latin America. The décor is especially notable and the entire hotel maintains a modern feel. There is a restaurant, bar, gym, spa, and laundry service.

Camino Real. This Hotel is so large that it could encompass its own little city. However, its large size means lots of walking. There are 3 restaurants, and bar, tennis courts, pools, gym, concierge, and laundry available.
