The first step in changing your windshield wipers is identifying if you need to change them. To do this you should look at the rubber part of the windshield wiper, the part that actually touches your car and see if it is cracked, or braking off. If it is you should probably replace it. Another way is to put water on your windshield and see if it wipes off right way when you turn your windshield wipers.
Once you have decided that you need to purchase new windshield wipers, you have to find out what kind you need. What I mean by this is that different cars have different sizes. Department stores that sell them, for example Fleet Farm, usually have a chart, or electronic catalog screen that tells you what size you need. I would not assume that your vehicle is in there though so it would be a good idea to find out what size you before entering the store. You can probably find the size in your owner's manual. If you do not have an owner's manual you can probably look up the size through a computer.
Now that you know what size you need you will need to decide if you want to replace just the rubber blades or the whole assembly. The whole assembly is usually easier to replace, but they also cost more. You will also want to buy a whole new assembly if your windshield wiper looks a little shoddy. You also want to buy a good name in your windshield wipers. You do not want them falling apart wile you are driving.
Now that you have your wipers picked put it is time to put them on. They should have come with instructions, so follow them. The term real men don't need instructions dose not apply to this scenario. Be careful if you are just replacing the blades, if the old assembly is bent or bad in any way it can cut you. The last thing to remember is that if one of your windshield wipers is bad, you probably want to redo both of them.
