Tips on Writing Your Own Book

Mich Butler
Writing a novel is a large task to start. The first thing to do is not what you would suspect.

Most people say you need a storyboard and a character explainer, etcetera, but I will tell you that is not the way. Trust me you will get bored if you plan it out before your fingers touch your computer keys. Trust me I wrote a fantasy novel called The Kingdom Left For Dead which can be found on amazon.com. The First thing is to read some books that are about a similar subject, study the way they paint a picture and try to improve your own style using notes you take from them, but do not copy their style it is imperative you make your own.

The second thing you want to do is get yourself some movies that have a connection in genre. I used films such as The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, both of the Conan movies, the 1980's Hobbit, and you get the idea watch them and study the plot twists and how they are pulled off. Let them inspire your own ideas to come forth.

It is also imperative to find some music, adventurous, lustful, emotional music. You want to play that while you are writing. It should just pour right out of your mind and onto your computer screen. Try not to stop while you are on a hot streak. Remember, you can fix grammatical errors later. Write as you speak, do not put to much thought into your sentences. You do not want to turn away an audience by overcomplicating your speech, but also it is important to use fancy words every once and a while to liven things up. Do not over do the big words though, you need a good balance.

Now what to do when you are staring at that blank page with the little blinking line. This is difficult and requires assistance. First put on a good mood setter, adventurous or mysterious is best. Now close your eyes and let the music sweep into you, let it fill you with its passion. You should start to see an image and that is good, if you are confident that it will not go away open your eyes and start typing. Or remember the event specifically and write it down later. After a couple times like this you will be able to just build and build and build onto your piece of work without closing your eyes or possibly without even the music. Best of luck to you my writing friend.
