Tired of Clearing Your Temporary Internet Files Yourself?

Ryan W
Temporary Internet files can really add up in months of not clearing them. Many people do not know anything about them and what they do. Some people refer to the Temporary Internet files as "cache". Temporary Internet files contain a kind of record of the items you have seen, downloaded, or heard from the Web, including sounds, images, cookies, even Web Pages. Basically it has a lot of what you have previously done on the Internet. This can add up and cause computers to run slower or even contain harmful viruses. Some slower computers or slow Internet connection users may not want to use this tutorial since they depend on the Temporary Internet Files to load websites a little bit faster. But for higher speed connection or faster computer users it doesn't do a huge amount of speed to them.

I'm going to show you a very easy trick on how to clear the temporary Internet files every time you close the browser automatically. It's a very simple process and can be done multiple ways. I'm going to show you three different ways. You will need a Windows XP operating system and I will refer to Internet Explorer 7 however it is very easy to navigate to the same place in IE 6.

Through the Control Panel

This way can be done without needing the requirement of going through the browser. There are two different views of the Control panel, the Category view and Classic View.

Category View:
Start by going to the Start button at the bottom left corner of your screen. Click on the Control Panel. Then click on the Network and Internet Connections icon. From there go down below and there should be another icon called Internet Options, click on that once. Another window should pop up called Internet Properties. From inside Internet Properties it should contain 7 different tabs, General, Security, Privacy, Content, Connections, Programs, and Advanced. Go ahead and click on the Advanced Tab. Once inside the Advanced tab scroll down to the Security section. and there should be a unchecked line that says "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed". Once locating that line check it off by clicking the empty box next to that line. After checking that line off click the Apply button then the OK button and there you go!

Classic View:
Start by going to the Start button at the bottom left corner of your screen. Click on the Control Panel. Once the Control Panel window has opened up locate the Internet Options icon. Go ahead and double click on the Internet Options icon.

Through the Browser (Internet Explorer 7)

Internet Explorer comes preloaded on Windows XP operating systems so I figured that I would tell you how to do it on Internet Explorer rather than another browser. Since other browsers can be easier to clear these things like for example how Mozilla Firefox has a "Clear private data..." feature this tutorial is not really required for those browsers since you can select clear every time I close the browser. But it can always be executed just to be sure. Now on to the tutorial!

Start by loading up Internet Explorer by whatever way you want to load it up. Once Internet Explorer has popped up navigate to the Tools button at the top right underneath the search bar. A menu should come down with multiple options move your mouse to the bottom of that list and select "Internet Options". Another window should pop up called Internet Options. From inside Internet Options it should contain 7 different tabs, General, Security, Privacy, Content, Connections, Programs, and Advanced.
