Tired of Dull Hair? Try These Easy Ways to Dress It Up

Tired of staring at the same dull hair style in the mirror every morning? Here are some inexpensive ways to give it a little something extra!

1. The messy bun

Perfect for a day of running errands, or heading out to yoga class. This works for any hair type, on hair long enough to get into a pony! You can go two ways with this; find a hair tie in a shade that closely matches yours or go total opposite with fun bold bright colors. Make a pony tail, then twist hair so that it coils onto itself. Don't panic if hair escapes, falls down, or sticks out-- that's the point! Tuck a few strands behind ears, or let it fall down around your face. Adding a pretty ribbon to your messy (Not ballerina perfect please!) bun kicks it up just a notch.

2. New twist on the pony tail

Try varying heights. You can make a deep side part and pull hair into a low pony for a sleek sophisticated look, or amp it up with a high pony! Take a hank of hair and wrap it around your elastic, secure on the underside with a bobby pin and you're all set!

3. Pig tails

Not only for those under 3 feet tall any more! Make sure to wear them low, and loose and let a few pieces hand about your face for too avoid the uptight first day of school look! And please! Make sure your elastics match!

4. Headbands

There are so many ways you can go with this look! Thin elastic headbands paired with a medium high pony tail give you a sporty on the go look. For a less sporty look wear multiple bands at once, putting about a quarter of an inch between bands. You can use a thicker fabric band for a more sophisticated look, but make sure to keep a few pieces in front of the band as bangs. And if wearing hair down with a head band be sure you have lots of volume at the crown!

5. Hair clips

Make a deeeep side part. Use a pretty clip to pull back a section from your face on the lesser side. Let your parted hair hang gently around your face. You can also use clips to neatly restrain stray hairs when doing updos! Another idea is to rock a clip with the hair poof! More on that later though.

6. The low side pony

Keep hair low and to the slightly to the side. Careful with this one lest you look like you fell out of an 80s time warp! The key to side ponies is keep them low and subtle. Again use a hank of hair to disguise the elastic. Letting long bangs hang loose is also pretty.

7. The poof

Simple brush hair straight back. gather a two inch by two inch section from dead center of your hairline and let the rest fall. Using bobby pins (or a gorgeous clip!) pull hair back flat against head...now push forward just a smidge. The more you bring it forward the more dramatic the look gets. For a night out go all the way! For running about town, or lunch with the girls a little gives you enough style.

8. Try something new

If you usually flip your hair under, flip it out! If you wear it up, let it down. If its straight give it curl! That's the key to stepping out of a hair rut! Don't forget that styling products are your friends as long as you don't goop them on. Have fun, and let your imagination run wild!
