I work in retail and I enjoy watching people. You see all kinds. I think they all manage to shop there at one point or another.
Black Friday was especially entertaining. I'd say that 75% of the people are nice but that 25% are just plain nasty. How one will act to get the first Play station or television. I mean actually fist fight. I managed to calm down one fight. Another I just walked away and called management.
I tend to think back when I was a child and my mother struggled to feed us and keep a roof over our head. We realized that and didn't expect much. Back then our family was close. Getting a pair of jeans was a big deal and they were only $10. That was a sale price too.
Today everyone has to buy their children more and more. So much they can not play with it all. They don't respect it or appreciate it. I know a mother that packs some of it into the attic because there is so much. Jst to keep up with everyone else.
So values are gone. We are all so busy we can't turn around. Time is flying by faster and faster. I just feel like I am missing so much but I have no idea what. Then by the time you realize, it's too late.
As Christmas approaches patience is less and people are crankier. Mothers are screaming at their children at the top of their lungs at the children they are going to spoil with more than they need on Christmas day. Couples argue. People that don't even know each other argue. If an Associate does not know what is in the next department they are called names that I prefer not to write.
January always starts out fast but as the year passes it all goes quicker. Then at the end we are rushing and frantic to get everything done. Then will come Christmas and a week later a New Year will start and we'll start all over.
At my age I've learned to take a lot with a grain of salt. As I said, it becomes entertaining. That's how I've learned to look at it.
Tis the Season so all enjoy and I hope by your Christmas day or whatever holiday you can relax. Remember, peace on earth and good will to men (and women).

Post a CommentRetail workers have a tough job, and do not receive much appreciation. So I will say thank you for your service to the public! Good job!!
It is crazy, isn't it? People will buy, buy, buy, spoil their kids with too many toys and then be paying for the gifts until next Christmas.
There are days it seems to drag by, especially when I can't think of a word to write! But mostly it does fly by. Have a great Christmas Rhonda!
I know what you mean about the time flying by, and watching people is one of my favorite things to do... :o)
