Titans Draft Needs - 2008

The Tennessee Titans have had a pretty good year. This is especially the case when you think back to the lousy 4-12 season that was just a couple of years ago. The Titans currently sit at 8-6 and have a chance to finish above .500 for the first time in years. This is a football team that is just a player or two away from making a run in the playoffs. That fact makes this draft season all the more important. Here is a look at the most important positions for the Titans to consider as we approach the 2008 NFL draft.

Wide Receiver. Without a doubt this is the most important position of need for Tennessee. Last year the Titans had a chance to take a receiver early in the first round. The passed, however, in order to select Michael Griffin. The pick has turned out to be a solid choice for the Titans, however they can ignore the wide receiver position no more. The Titans must find some reliable go to players to help quarter back Vince Young. Veteran Eric Moulds will probably be gone next year. Branden Jones has be inconsistent and injury prone. Both Justin Gage and Roydell Williams have been solid for the most part, but the Titans need a big time, fast receiver to stretch defenses.

Defensive Tackle. Albert Haynesworth has been a larger part of the Titans success this year. The Titans are winless without him this year. When he is out of the lineup opposing teams seam to run the football with ease. When he is in the lineup, they can't move the ball. The Titans need another big guy to plug up the middle and to help on plays that Big Al is out of the lineup.

Cornerback/Safety. No one knows for sure the future of Pacman Jones. Even if he comes back the Titans have a number of solid but older players like Nick Harper and Chris Hope. Hope went down with an injury to end the season and who knows for sure if he will return next year.

Offensive line. This is an area of strength for Tennessee, but I think an addition here is necessary as well. If nothing else, a pickup here will provide a better backup at for their line. This is such a crucial position for Tennessee because they run the football so much.

If a good player is available:

Running back. Will Lendale White stay in shape and continue to take the load of carries, like he did this year. Will rookie Chris Henry become the player the Titans hoped he would. if a good back is available don't be surprised to see Tennessee take one for the third year in a row.

Tight End. With only Bo Scaife showing he is a reliable target, this is a position the Titans should look at if a good player is on the board.
