Titans Versus Texans Score Heartbreaking Loss for Texans

Robert Dougherty
The Titans vs Texans score was set to change the Texans season, and even their history. If the Titans vs Texans score favored Houston, the Texans would be in the thick of the playoff race for the first time. Instead, the Titans vs Texans score was just another failed chance for Houston to take the next step. In addition, the Titans continued to put their 0-6 start behind them, as their 20-17 win gave Vince Young his fourth straight triumph.

The Titans vs Texans score started out well for Houston, as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead. But Tennessee tied things up at 14 at the end of the first half, and then the game turned into a defensive struggle, as no touchdowns were scored the rest of the way. Quarterbacks Vince Young and Matt Schaub were efficient and largely mistake-free, while Titans' running back Chris Johnson continued his torrid pace.

But on the Titans last drive, the hero was kicker Rob Bironas, who missed a field goal earlier in the half, yet made a game-winning 53-yarder with under a minute left. However, the Titans vs Texans score actually looked destined to go to overtime, as the Texans had enough time to get into field goal range.

In a debatable move, the Texans all but fell on the ball on a third-and-four at the 32, with eight seconds left and one timeout still to spare. Houston barely tried to get Kris Brown any closer - then watched him miss the game-tying kick wide left, for the second game in a row.

The Titans vs Texans score went from a coming out party for Houston, to a crushing loss that could decide their season. The Texans have two straight games against the Colts and Jaguars, so they needed to get to 6-4 before then. Instead, Houston has a real chance of being 5-7 soon enough, or may at least be doomed to another .500 season. By now, 8-8 records are not acceptable in Houston anymore.

But the Titans vs Texans score got Tennessee closer to respectability again. The Titans may be the most bi-polar team in football, as their 0-6 start has given way to four straight wins, and very faint playoff hopes. Both Vince Young and the Titans have woken up so suddenly, fans have to wonder why they couldn't do it earlier.

It may be too late for the 2009 season, but Tennessee may look back at this year as a landmark, if Young can prove he really is the QB of the future after all.

Some fans may have thought of the Titans vs Texans as an undercard, before next week's highly anticipated Patriots vs Saints Monday night game. Instead, last night set the bar even higher for the Pats and Saints to live up to the hype.

The Titan players won't support a white quarterback while Vince Young is on the team.
