Tithing at Living Word: Rap Adds Some Beat to Enliven the Message

Any Preacher that Wants to Can Teach on Tithing, but Rapping is More Unique

R.C. Johnson
Having dramatic presentations or lively, upbeat music performed at church was unheard of when I was growing up. You filed into church, sat down, remained very quiet, sang the old hymns from the hymnal housed in a tray on the back of the pew just ahead of you, heard a brief message, and filed out. At least that was my personal experience.

Things have really changed today, particularly in large, predominately non-denominational churches. Praise and worship is a huge part of their church services, and the congregations love to sing, lift their hands in worship to God, and give praise and honor with joy through music, dance, and drama.

The use of rap music is one of the many ways that traditional church teachings have been enlivened through music in many churches across our country today.

There is a video on youtube that demonstrates some of the fun, creativity and enthusiasm of three church members of a large non-denominational church who recently came up with their own version of sharing a message about tithing through the use of rap music.

Living Word Christian Center is a large non-denominational church located in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, which is the fourth-largest city in the Metropolitan area, and the sixth largest city in the state.

Click on the link to the video and rap along! The video is entitled: The Tithe Rap at Living Word Christian Center

I've been a tither for about fifteen years and will remain one for the rest of my life. But whether you believe in the tithe or not, this video can be enjoyed as an example of one of the many ways that creative music is being integrated into many church services of today.

Nice work Ruth. Although tithing is in the Bible, I feel that there's too much emphasis put on it when there's much more than to be taught. I go to church to worship God all Mighty, not the all mighty dollar.

I'm not much into rap music, but this was entertaining with a good message. I have been a tither for many years. Tithing maintains the flow of spiritual abundance and honors the Law of Giving and Receiving. It is sowing the seeds for future abundance.

I do believe in tithing...I love to give the first portion (10%) to God for me personally, I feel it belongs to Him and besides we get to use the 90% and everything on the earth is God's anyway.

The first lively pop tune I recall, that was Christian oriented, is Spirit in the Sky. It is not rap but an upbeat tune with a good beat.
