Titleist 909F3 Fairway Wood Review

MikeBabjak
To finish off the new Titleist woods for 2009, I will be reviewing a real Mans club in the 909F3 fairway wood. After you get done reading about this best, I suggest checking out my review of Titleists new hybrids.

A total opposite of the 909F2 fairway wood, the 909F3 fairway wood is all about having one thing... Swing Speed!

The Titleist 909F3 fairway wood features a shorter, and deeper face than it's little brother to help stronger players control shots without hitting them too high. It's head style is very clean and traditional, but one can tell when they look at it right away, that it's going to be a challenge to get this puppy airborne.

This club is the perfect compliment to those good enough, and strong enough to hit the Titleist 909D3 driver, and is every bit as workable. The clubs deep face ensures that you can work the ball however you want, but that, matched with a higher center of gravity means you need to be swinging over 100mph to be able to get the ball above your head!

Similar to the 909F2 fairway wood, is the steel face insert for more distance and added perimeter weighting, along with the custom weight screw for matching shafts without sacrificing good balance.

But, as I've been mentioning the real story is how this truly is a Mans club! I hit several balls with this thing and while I could hit some good shots with it, I had a heck of a time getting it very high. I lost about 10 yards due to this, and while I was able to work it better than most fairway woods I have hit, it is not worth it not to be able to carry the ball all the way to it's final destination. Hitting off the tee however, was great! It was like hitting a mini driver, and I had no problems at all working it off the tee.

Now, that out of the way, I'm not saying this club is useless, it just is for most of us who don't swing the club very hard! If you can go after it and still be able to find the ball when you are done, I suggest you try this fairway wood. It will get you good distance, control, and most importantly for stronger players, a trajectory that will not punch a hole in the clouds after hit it! The rest of us will stick to something a little more easy to hit in the air!

Check out my other reviews for Titleist in 2009 and I'll be back shortly with a review of their new hybrid.

Stay Tuned!!
