The Titleist AP1 irons at first glance look like a standard cavity back iron on the surface. But what's inside is much more than just good looks. The cast head features a dual cavity system allows for more weight to be moved around the club, primarily to its Tungsten sole. Weight is removed from this inner cavity to make room for the Tungsten which is positioned towards the rearward part of the sole. This allows the center of gravity to be pushed low and away from the face to create a higher launch angle for more carry and more distance. The lofts are a club strong, and matched with the new weighting system, they are by far the longest Titleist irons ever produced! Shipped with the new True Temper Dynamic Gold High Launch shaft and you get the perfect blend of performance and looks with a very solid feel.
I am currently playing this set of irons and have really fallen in love with them! It took a few shots to get used to the offset of the clubs. While not much, it's more than I'm used to. The mirror finish on the irons and slightly thicker top line look great at address, and the new Dynamic Gold High Launch shafts feel great in my hands. Standard Tour Velvet grips are a great touch compared to the cord version they used to put on their clubs.
Hitting this set is as easy as breathing! I had a little trouble hitting cut shots with them, but overall I was more than pleased with their performance. They launched the ball on a high trajectory that flattened out at its apex and carried forever! The weighting and shaft combination are to thank for that! The ball stopped on the green very quickly with each club and the distance control was outstanding. The fact that these irons are under $700 retail is another great feature that should bring a whole new customer base to Titleist.
If you are looking for some clubs to help you play better, or want a clean looking iron with just a little more forgiveness, I would suggest giving the Titleist AP1 irons a try!
