Tivo: A Great Addition to Your Home Entertainment

Tivo is the most famous of the DVRs. There are many reasons why Tivo is good and some reasons it is bad.

First, a digital video recorder, DVR, is a device that can be used to automatically record your favorite TV shows. The box will also allow you to pause live TV and to replay what you just watched.

A Tivo is a specific kind of DVR. One of the best features of a Tivo is its ability to choose shows you would be interested in watching. Your Tivo will use the ratings you give shows to decide what other shows you would enjoy and it will automatically record them for you. This feature worries some people that the shows they know they want to watch will be deleted as the Tivo records new shows they have not told it to. This is not a problem however as the shows Tivo chooses are deleted before anything else, keeping all of the shows you programmed. Another great thing about the Tivo box that I haven't seen on any other system is the automatic rewind. When you are fast-forwarding and you press the play button the show automatically rewinds a few seconds. Because of the automatic rewind you will stop at the point you wanted to instead of missing some of what you wanted to see. One more feature about the Tivo that makes it so great is the ability to connect it to your computer. If you have it connected you can move shows to your computer and watch them there or just store them. Also if it is connected to the internet you can use any internet connected computer to tell your Tivo to record something for you at any time. There are many other great features of the Tivo box in addition to the ones named above.

Tivo, however, does have some downsides. It is hard to copy the shows you record onto a DVD or tape because of the format they are recorded in. Also, the Tivo service is expensive and you have to continue to pay for it each year. Many other DVRs also charge on a monthly or yearly basis as well though.

Overall the Tivo is a very good system and is better than a lot of the other forms of DVRs available. If you are going to purchase and one of these systems you should do some research to find which one will best meet your needs.
