TLC Sues Jon Gosselin Over Contract Issues

TLC is suing Jon Gosselin for breach of contract. The decision of TLC to sue Jon Gosselin for breach of contract obviously stems from his actions outside of the show, and his refusal to let cameras into his house anymore. It's not much of a surprise that it finally came to this, as it seemed inevitable that TLC would sue Jon Gosselin after the recent stunts he has been trying to pull. From the outside looking in, this really looks like TLC has a great case in court against Jon Gosselin. No matter whether we support Jon or Kate Gosselin the most in this situation, if Jon is under contract and refusing to obey the rules of that contract, it seems pretty clear cut.

In the lawsuit that CNN gained a copy of, TLC has accused Jon Gosselin of violating his contract with paid and unpaid TV appearances that he has recently done. TLC is also claiming that it has lost a significant chunk of money due to Gosselin's actions, and that he is not fulfilling his contractual obligations. Under the contract, which is probably very typical for most reality shows like Jon and Kate Plus 8, Jon Gosselin agreed to provide himself and his family for taping and promotion of the show. By refusing to do that, no matter what the reason he might give, he is clearly going against the writing of the contract. It seems like this could be an easy ruling for any judge.

The argument coming from the other side of the table seems to be that because TLC is changing the show from Jon and Kate Plus 8 to just Kate Plus 8, that they don't have to live up to the contract anymore. It's a pretty weak argument, but it seems to be the one that Jon Gosselin and his lawyers want to try and argue when the case makes it to court. When this lawsuit actually will make it to court is an entirely different issue, because just looking at the slow process it is taking for this couple to get divorced, it may be years before there is actually a settlement in this new case.

It's such a shame that this once successful reality show on TLC has boiled down to what seems like a bitter squabble between Jon and Kate Gosselin. They are both dragging others into the equation, and none of this will be positive for their children in the long term. Both Jon and Kate Gosselin had been in talks to try out new shows, and it will be interesting to see where that leads if this lawsuit takes them both into court for extended periods of time. Could this possibly mean that Jon and Kate Plus 8 will come to an end?
