TLC's The Little Couple: Best New Reality Program

Reality television ranks high on most viewer's watch lists and TLC (The Learning Channel) delivers daily with shows that range from a large family in Arkansas (Eighteen Kids and Counting) to Cake Boss, a real-life-daily drama about a working family at Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken, NJ to the Roloff clan on "Little People, Big World". Until the debut of "The Little Couple", Matt and Amy Roloff were probably the most famous little people couple in the United States but now, with "The Little Couple", another married couple is gaining fans and attention.

"The Little Couple" focuses on the life of newlyweds, Dr. Jen Arnold, a neonatoligist at Texas Children's Hospital and Bill Klein, a self-employed businessman. The couple recently celebrated their first anniversary with a trip to Hawaii but the program focuses on their daily life.

Viewers watch as Jen shops for clothing that fits in the little girls' section of department stores, as her visiting mother picks her up like a child, as Bill struggles through hip replacement surgery, and as the couple searches for their first house. Their shared small apartment is the scene for much of the show, focusing on the problems faced by little people living in a world designed for average size adults. Conflicting work schedules, juggling the bills each month, dining out, even buying a new car for Jen are all the focus. Since these are things that most viewers can relate to, the show is a hit and is made more interesting by the fact that "The Little Couple" both were born with dwarfism.

Although the show has gained a great deal of attention, the couple doesn't feel that they are famous, despite an Oprah appearance and do about their daily duties just like everyone else.

The difference is that their challenges are a little greater because of their size but this amazing couple doesn't let their size limit them.

Jen is a doctor, a neonatoligist and works hard in her chosen profession. Bill built his reputation and company as a businessman. Neither let their size or condition limit their lives. If they do nothing else, the couple hopes to educate the public (much like Matt Roloff hopes to do) and give young little people the message that they can live just like everyone else.

The couple met on a online dating site for little people and talked all night on their first date. They dated for three years before marrying. Now they are happily married and having just celebrated their first anniversary are tackling the traditional issues of buying a home and whether or not to have children.

Jen, whose work involves children, would love to become a mother but her condition makes pregnancy higher risk than for most women so the option is still on the table.

"The Little Couple" airs each Tuesday on TLC at 9pm Central Standard time. The show often also runs previous episodes prior to the new show each week so check local listings and tune into "The Little Couple", the best reality show of them all!
