T-Mobile 4G Mobile Hotspot Offers Powerful Portability

Stephanie Armstrong

I was recently given the opportunity to try out the T-Mobile 4G Mobile Hotspot. I have read about mobile hotspot devices sold by Verizon Wireless, AT&T and Sprint, but have yet to try them out. This was my first experience with this type of device, but I was instantly excited by how it provides Wi-Fi for up to 5 wireless devices on T-Mobile's nationwide 4G network.

Easy Set Up

I put the Mobile Hotspot to the test by connecting a variety of my wireless devices to it to see how it performs. It was surprisingly easy to set up and I initially connected to the Mobile Hotspot with my laptop. Pages took a little longer to load compared to my D-Link wireless router, but I repositioned the hotspot a few feet away from my laptop and the service was faster.

The Mobile Hotspot really came in handy when using my MacBook Pro. My wireless card needs to be replaced and I constantly lose signal if I step into the next room, but I was able to take the Mobile Hotspot with me and I didn't have any connection problems. I also updated my Facebook status on my PSP in my backyard and looked up some gaming tips. I started to think of al

T-Mobile 4G MobileHotspot Features

The device is pretty slim and sleek. I like the bright green edges and the small screen that shows how many devices are connected to the hotspot. It is a tad smaller than my Samsung Reality cell phone, lightweight and can easily fit in your pocket.

It also has a micro SDHC memory card slot, VPN support and broadcasts 802.11 b/g. One thing that should be noted is that the Mobile Hotspot only works on T-Mobile's HSPA+ 4G network and service isn't available everywhere. You will have to check their coverage map to make sure service is available in your area and where you are traveling to.

The Mobile Hotspot provides a secure network, but users have to ensure that they change the T-Mobile Hotspot Admin password, SSID and Wi-Fi password before use. You don't want unauthorized devices hooking up to the hotspot and using data while you foot the bill. T-Mobile offers a postpaid plan and a no annual contract or credit check plan.

Browser Requirements

The browser requirements for this device include Internet Explorer (6.0 or later) versions, Firefox (2.0 or later), Safari (4.0 or later), Opera (10.0 or later) and Chrome (5.0 or later). Ultimately, the T-Mobile 4G Mobile Hotspot is extremely portable and allows you to create a high-speed network wherever you are.
