T-Mobile and Google, yes the makers of the sidekick and the most popular search engine on the internet, have joined forces to create the first ever mobile device that uses the Android system. The T-Mobile G1. The G1 is as thin as the iPhone from Apple, and has the QWERTY keyboard just like the Sidekick from T-Mobile. It has a 3.0 megapixel camera, a YouTube dedicated video player, Google street view navigation with a built-in compass, touchscreen and the trackball just like the Sidekick has. The G1 is now available for pre-order on the T-Mobile website, and can be purchased in stores on October 22nd and plans to compete with the sales of the iPhone, and the Instinct from sprint. T-Mobile is selling the phone for $399 without a contract, and $179 with a new 2 year contract. The price is about the same price of the Sidekick's and expects to be even more popular.
The G1 was manufactured by HTC and was originally going to be named the HTC Dream. The Android system that the G1 will be using is specialized in the working of Java, and Java-like language. Developed by Google, the Android system allows developers of the phones to write in managed code that uses Google developed Java libraries. In February 2008, a prototype using the Android system was put out at the Mobile World Congress showcasing some of the many features that a mobile device using the Android system would have. In August of 2008, the FCC approved the G1 to be sold in all cell phone stores.
As soon as the G1 hits the market on October 22nd, many T-Mobile customers and maybe some customers switching from other providers, will be out at T-Mobile stores picking up the G1. The best thing to do would be to pre-order it so you can be one of the first ones to say that you have the barrier breaking cell phone, The G1 from T-Mobile.
