TMobile Myfaves: Getting the Most Out of Your Myfaves Plan from TMobile

Secret Tips on Using Myfaves to Your Advantage

Melissa B
TMobile launched it's famous Myfaves plan about two years ago. Since launching the popular Myfaves plan, TMobile has gained popularity and has ranked really high as a leading competitor in wireless service providers. The Myfaves plan is what seems to separate TMobile from the crowd. Although, there are other cellular companies promoting the same type benefits as the Myfaves, like AllTel, who seemed to actually start the "free any network calling" feature.

If you have TMobile's Myfaves plan already, you'll want to get the most out of it. One of the best way to enjoy the benefits of the Myfaves plan is to keep your contacts current. Did you know you can switch out any of your fav 5 contacts once a month? Every billing cycle, you should evaluate your mobile bill to see where your minutes went. If you haven't talked to Suzy Q very much this month, who is ranked in your favs, than you may want to replace her with Anna, who you used 478 anytime minutes on this month. The key to getting the most out of this plan is to make sure that the 5 people on your Myfaves are the same 5 people who you talk to regularly each month.

You don't have to change your contacts on a certain day, you simply change them whenever you want, as long as they have not been changed with in 30 days and meet the correct eligibility date. So, if you know you have to make an extensively long call a few times this month to the same number, simply switch them to your Myfaves by replacing a contact who you still may talk to, but not as much as as you will for the given month of the new contact. For example, let's say that your boss needs you on a one hour tele conference six times this month. The tele conference is from 3 pm to 4 pm, so it is peak minutes that will be used, unless you add the tele conference number that you will be dialing to your Myfaves contact list (as long as it is not and 800 or 900 number, as these are not allowed my TMobile as Myfaves contacts) So replace a Myfaves contact who you plan on talking to for less than 360 minutes (six, one hour phone calls = 360 minutes) with the new tele conference number, and once it's been updated(usually within 5 minutes but can take up to two hours according to TMobile) all calls made to the number will not count against your minutes. Next month, you can swap numbers around again, it's all up to you.

I also found that you can use TMobile's Myfaves in a pinch, when your minutes are very low and the need to make a long phone call is imperative during peak hours. You can swap out a contact who you won't be talking to very often during the rest of the billing cycle for this imperative phone call. But be cautioned, this number will stay in your my favs for a month, so if you never have to call them again, you basically have only four Myfaves contacts until the number is eligible to be switched out again.

One really good thing, is switching your Myfaves takes effect with TMobile almost instantly and does not back date, so if you talked a whole lot to a contact, and mid month, switch them to someone else, all the previous minutes you used on them are covered, and the very moment your contact is updated and switch, the new Myfaves contact you added will be free calling from then on.

You will need to keep an eye on each TMobile cell phone bill to see where your minutes are going and how well your using your Myfaves minutes. One big mistake is to add the free mobile to mobile feature on your phone, and keep someone who has TMobile service on your Myfaves, that's just wasted Myfaves space! You already talk to them for free because they have TMobile!

One other word of caution is on the "unavailable callers" My mother-in-law is currently on my Myfaves since we call each other a lot. However, she has a blocked number, and every time she calls me and it comes up as "unavailable" and I answer, I am not getting that call for free. She has to unblock her number by dialing *82 before calling me, so that my caller ID displays her number, which is programed as a Myfaves contact. It's easy to forget that, and start racking up peak minutes, on a call your entitled to for free!

Remember, Myfaves isn't meant to be a popularity contest. You shouldn't have anyone in there that you don't talk to in high volumes! No matter if it's your work office number, which you call regularly for various reasons, family or a friend, make sure a large amount of minutes are being used on them to get the most out of your Myfaves minutes!

Getting the most out of your cell phone plan is essential for saving money. Making sure that the plan you have fits your life style is important, so if you have Myfaves, start letting it work for you and get the most out of it. If you don't have the plan, but are thinking about getting it ask your self this important question. Do you consistently talk to five people a month? These can switch monthly, but if you are a person who makes hundreds of calls to loads of people, this is not the plan for you. However, studies show an average cell phone user call the same 5 people 65% of the time!

  • Updating your myfaves often, lets you keep more of your peak minutes
  • TMobile bills should be viewed monthly to best determine your myfaves contacts
  • Myfaves contacts who come up "unavailable" will NOT be a free call unless they unblock their number
TMobile is not the only service provider to offer any network free calling, Alltel Wireless offers similar plans with even more flexability, but their service is not as good as TMobiles and they are not avaible in many areas as of right now.
