T-Mobile Prepaid BlackBerry Plan Details

The Popular Smartphone is Now Available on a Prepaid Plan--good News!

T-Mobile recently released news that it has now made prepaid BlackBerry phone plans available. This marks the first time the popular smartphone is available with a prepaid service plan in the United States.

The news of T-Mobile's new plans comes as the holiday season approaches, but also as prepaid phone plans are reaching a new level of popularity stateside. People are looking for ways to save money in any way they can and many are no longer happy to shell out the big bucks needed on many two year contract plans.

Furthermore, many people are starting to question why they need to be signed to a contract to get cell phone service in the first place. Add to all this the rising popularity of smart phones and the sheer user-friendliness of BlackBerry handheld devices and it makes a lot of sense that T-Mobile would release a plan like this.

T-Mobile has released plans for prepaid Blackberry, which marks the first time the popular iconic smartphone has been available on a prepaid plan in the United States. Truly, this is a day for Blackberry fans to rejoice. As prepaid plans come into prominence as a result of the benefits, freedom, and savings they provide customers, more and more options are being provided. This release of T-Mobile prepaid Blackberry plans comes right before the holiday season and is meant to spur sales and get handsets into T-Mobile subscribers.

The package that includes the T-Mobile prepaid BlackBerry is called T-Mobile Complete. There are a few other handsets available with the plan as well, so consumers don't necessarily have to spring for the generally more expensive BlackBerry. In fact, the BlackBerry Curve 8520 costs just under $300-that's a pretty penny. Other handsets start at $59, and with the purchase price of the phone, the first month of service is free. For every month after that, the service is $50. Customers can add unlimited web browsing to the package and pay $80 per month.

This may not seem like as good a deal as some of the other competitive prepaid plans out there like Boost Mobile's Unlimited Monthly plan ($50 per month), Straight Talk Unlimited plan ($45), and MetroPCS' Unlimited plan ($45), but that's the price that has to be paid for the luxury of using the higher end phones.

It seems logical that the people who will be picking these plans up will be customers who already use T-Mobile's service or who really want to go on a prepaid plan but can't bear parting with their precious BlackBerry. The phone can be quite addictive.

Also, it's important to remember that there is an inherent flexibility that comes with prepaid plans in that there is no contract locking a customer into long term phone use, so this may also be a driving factor in new sign-ups to the T-Mobile prepaid plans. There's a lot of stiff competition, so T-Mobile has some work to do in marketing this. The company is already pushing it as a great gift idea for the holidays.

As time goes by and consumers become more savvy about wireless offerings and more picky, there will be a good deal more innovative prepaid cell phone offers. There is a lot of competition in the prepaid industry at the moment, so each wireless provider needs to constantly offer something that the next guy doesn't.

Boost Mobile, Straight Talk, and MetroPCS have all contributed to what many have called the "prepaid price war" as costs have been driven down and services have been added as standard parts of plans. All three services, and now T-Mobile Complete, offer unlimited prepaid plans as standard offerings. That's a relatively new thing and one that has a lot of people excited about how much money they may be able to save with prepaid.

It will be interesting to see what happens with T-Mobile's prepaid BlackBerry offer. The industry will probably be watching closely to see if this is a hit or a miss, but as of now it seems like a very good idea to extend prepaid options to the high-tech, more expensive phones. What's next? A prepaid iPhone? Add to that the relatively inexpensive cost of the iPhone in the later years and that now sounds like a very good idea. But for now, we'll have to make do with the prepaid BlackBerry.

These plans are available at Wal-Mart and Best Buy locations, two stores which sell several other prepaid plans under different carriers, the most high-profile one being Straight Talk from TracFone (which is available at Wal-Mart).
