Genesis is a TNA wrestling Pay-Per-View (PPV) which will take place Sunday, January 8 th 2012. Genesis will feature four Championship Matches. The World Heavyweight Championship Match, the World Tag Team Championship Match, the X-Division Championship Match, and the Knockouts Championship Match.
The World Heavyweight Championship Match will feature the Champion Bobby Roode and the challenger Jeff Hardy. The World Heavyweight Championship Match could be Hardy's time to shine. Since returning to TNA hardy has picked up four victories at PPVs. Hardy picked up his first three victories at Turning Point when he defeated Jeff Jarrett three times in a row. Hardy picked up his fourth victory at Final Resolution by defeating Jarrett inside a steel cage. TNA has allowed Hardy to pick up multiple victories which proves they have given him another opportunity. They did not bring him back to make an example out of him. They could still make an example out of him at Genesis. Hardy could lose the Match in ninety seconds but that is highly unlikely. Even though TNA will not be making an example out of Hardy at Genesis that does not mean he deserves to win the Match. I don't feel Hardy has accomplished enough since returning to TNA. Defeating Jarrett four times was a good idea to get the fans behind him but I feel it's to soon for Hardy to hold the World Heavyweight Championship. TNA should wait a few more months to see if Hardy has actually changed. Hardy can still pick up the victory in this Match but it should be by disqualification. It will allow the feud between Hardy and Roode to grow. It will also give Roode a slightly longer reign as Champion. When Genesis rolls around Roode will have held the Championship for a little over two months. Roode should at least make it to three or four months before dropping the Championship. For those reasons I'm giving the victory to Roode. If Hardy does win it will be via disqualification or count out allowing Roode to remain Champion.
The World Tag Team Championship Match will feature the Champions Matt Morgan and Crimson and the challengers Samoa Joe and Magnus. Samoa Joe and Magnus earned this Match by winning the Wild Card Tournament. The Wild Card Tournament was a Tag Team Tournament that took Superstars and paired them together at random. Most teams where not able to work together but Samoa Joe and Magnus were. Now they find themselves challenging for the World Tag Team Championships against Matt Morgan and the undefeated Crimson. When Samoa Joe debuted in TNA he had an undefeated streak that lasted 18 months. I always thought Joe should be the one to end Crimson's undefeated streak. Crimson's undefeated streak is approaching 13 months. Morgan and Crimson have not held the Tag Team Championships for more than two months. For those reasons Crimson and Morgan should pick up the victory or have the Match end in disqualification or count out. That way the feud between these Superstars can continue, Crimson can extended his undefeated streak for another month or two, and Morgan and Crimson can remain Tag Team Champions for a few more months.
The X-Division Championship Match will feature the Champion Austin Aries and the challengers Kid Kash, Jesse Sorensen, and Zema Ion. If a Championship were to change hands at Genesis it would be the X-Division Championship. Aries is approaching the four month mark as Champion. The only problem is I'm not sure who would defeat Aries. It would be highly unlikely that Zema Ion wins this Match since he was the last Superstar added to it. Aries defeated Kash and Sorensen two months ago at Turning Point. He also defeated Kash last month at Final Resolution. If the third times the charm, Kash should be walking away with the Championship; However, since Kash and Aries are both heels I don't see that happening. If someone were to take the X-Division Championship off Aries, it would be Sorensen. Something tells me TNA is not quite ready to give the Championship to Soresen. For those reasons I'm giving the victory to Aries.
The Knockouts Championship Match will feature the Champion Gail Kim and the challenger Mickie James. The Knockouts Championship seems like it has been changing hands to often the last few months. Winter won the Championship at Hardcore Justice. Less than one month later she lost it to Mickie James. Ten days later James lost the Championship to Winter. A little over a month later Winter lost the Championship to Velvet Sky at Bound For Glory. After Bound For Glory I felt the Championship should not change hands for the rest of the year, but TNA felt differently and allowed Gail Kim to win the Championship at Turning Point. Kim successfully defended her Championship against James at Final Resolution. Kim had some outside help from Madison Rayne which led to this Match at Genesis. Kim has not even hit the two month mark as Champion plus the Championship has changed hands five times in last five months. For those reasons I'm giving the victory to Kim.
Besides the four Championship Matches, Genesis will feature a Monster's Ball Match. A Monster's Ball Match is simply a No Disqualification Match. Twenty-four hours before the Match takes place the competitors are said to be locked in a room with no light, food, or water. This is to make them more aggressive when the Match officially begins. This Monster's Ball Match will feature Abyss and Bully Ray. It also carries a special stipulation. If Bully Ray wins the Match, Abyss must join Immortal. The stipulation for this Match pretty much gives away the winner. Bully Ray has nothing to lose. For that reason I'm giving the victory to Abyss.
Genesis will also feature three singles Matches. The first is between Kurt Angle and 'Cowboy' James Storm. The second is between 'The Pope' D'Angelo Dinero and Devon. The third is between Rob Van Dam (RVD) and Gunner.
The Match between Kurt Angle and 'Cowboy' James Storm is a rematch. These two faced off last month at Final Resolution will Storm picking up the victory. This time around fans will see similar results. If Angle will be leaving for the 2012 Olympics he should lose the Match. Angle does not benefit from a victory if he is going to be taking some time off to focus on the Olympics. For that reason I'm giving the victory to Storm.
The Match between 'The Pope' D'Angelo Dinero and Devon arose from Devon's sons turning on him. The Pope and Devon were tag team partners at Final Resolution. Less than a week later Devon's sons turned on him and joined forces with The Pope. That puts Devon at a disadvantage going into this Match. Devon's sons could distract Devon allowing The Pope to pick up the victory. Devon's sons could cause The Pope to get disqualified, leading to a beat down of their father. Devon's sons could turn on The Pope and help their father pick up the victory, but it seems to early for that. For those reasons I'm giving the victory to The Pope.
The Match between RVD and Gunner arose when Gunner tried to put RVD out of action. Gunner tried to 'Pile Drive' RVD into the concrete floor. At the time Gunner was unsuccessful but I'm sure he will try again at Genesis. If Gunner is unable to 'Pile Drive' RVD into the concrete floor he should still pick up the victory. It looks like TNA is trying to build Gunner as a future Champion by having Gunner put Superstars out of action by 'Pile Driving' them into the concrete floor. Gunner also has the support of Ric Fliar and Eric Bischoff. If this is the case Gunner should win this Match, otherwise his attacks on Garett Bischoff, Jesse Neal, and Douglas Williams look like a waste. For those reasons I'm giving the victory to Gunner.
