TNA Wrestling's Monday Night War Against Vince McMahon's WWE

Victor Gillingham
Like most wrestling fans, I am anxious to see what happens in the wrestling world over the next year. The past several months have seen a big shift in the underbelly of wrestling, with Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff leading the charge against Vince McMahon's WWE. This is the opportunity they have dreamed of since the demise of WCW 9 years ago. The following is a review of each side and what we can expect in this fight.

TNA Wrestling Pros: TNA is bringing the unpredictable to Monday Nights. They are edgy and hip compared to the WWE, and a large part of this is due to Eric Bischoff. Bischoff understands that wrestling fans desire an alternative to the structured nature of the WWE. They will also bring the violence and adult-friendly episodic television that wrestling fans have missed for many years. With Scott Hall, Ric Flair, and Sean Waltman, they bring back some of the players of the golden era in wrestling.

TNA Wrestling Cons: While sometimes they get it right, sometimes they get it really wrong. Who wants to see Jeff Jarrett flipping burgers or Mick Foley in a suit? Who wants to see Abyss act like a cartoon character? The writing team appears to get in the way of itself, when they could successfully use these talented wrestlers in more reality-based programs. In addition, we do not need to see the Nasty Boys in a ring ever again. Maybe Hulk Hogan could sign them to the "Lanny Poffo WCW contract" where they can get paid for not wrestling or being on TV. This way Hulk can still help his friends out!

WWE Pros: The WWE is a juggernaut led by one of the strongest alpha males on the planet: Vince McMahon. While he has grown his empire into a family-friendly company, McMahon will take it as far as it needs to go if a real ratings war breaks out. The WWE is full of employees behind the scenes who will fight tooth and nail to stay on top. In addition, the WWE has the best talent in the business, including John Cena, Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, HHH, and Edge. It will also take many years for TNA to come close to developing the infrastructure and size of the WWE.

WWE Cons: While WWE is the biggest ride in the park, they are also the most boring. We can only see so many matches between the same superstars at every pay-per-view without becoming inattentive. They have been able to rest on their laurels for years, which has created malaise for the wrestling fans. The diehard wrestling fans desire interviews from the heart, like the ones that Dusty Rhodes, Roddy Piper, Ric Flair, and Jake Roberts used to give us. Everything seems too scripted, and that is one of the biggest problems in wrestling today.

This year will mark a new exciting era in wrestling. In 2010, TNA will gain in the ratings and create a true alternative for wrestling fans. Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan are doing this as much out of passion as they are for money, and passion can take you far. While Vince McMahon may not be shaking in his boots, it is guaranteed that the WWE is on high alert and will be keeping an eye on the new TNA.
