To Abort or Not to Abort

That is the Question

Susan Owens
The subject of abortion arises, and discussion flies. Many people are fighting to justify their side of whether or not abortion is moral or just. Whether you are for or against abortion, perhaps you should think about it from every point of view before passing judgement so easily. It might also be a good ideal to gather information about the subject of abortion before deciding whether or not it is okay to abort a fetus.

What does it mean to abort?

The Microsoft's dictionary states that aborting something would be to "end prematurely: to bring something to an end or come to an end at an early stage". When you look up the word "abortion" in the Microsoft dictionary, it reads; "operation to end pregnancy: an operation or other intervention to end a pregnancy by removing an embryo or fetus from the womb".

So what is a fetus?

After being armed with the knowledge that abortion refers to the termination of a "fetus", one could not help but to question, what is a fetus? The Parents web site states that during the second month of pregnancy, the "fetus" then is called an embryo. Also, according to the Parents web site, close to the end of the second month of pregnancy, "most of your baby's internal organs are formed". The Abortion Facts web site states that within the second month of pregnancy, "every organ is present" within the "fetus". The Parents web site goes on to tell it's readers that during the second month of any pregnancy, the eyes and eye lenses begin to form on the "embryo".

Taking a glimpse at month number three, you will see that your fetus's heart beat can now be heard through special instruments at your doctors office. According to Parents web site, during month number three of your pregnancy, for the fetus, "lips start to grow on a mouth that can already open and close".

By month number four of the pregnancy, the baby's sex organs are now visible through an ultrasound, and the baby now has finger nails. During this month, month number four, the Abortion Facts web site states, "the baby may suck her thumb, turn summersaults and has a firm grip".

During month five of a women's pregnancy, baby takes a turn in their developement and growth, and "nerve cells increases rapidly this month, especially in the front of the brain, where thinking takes place", according to Parents; notice the word, "increase", which suggests that the baby has already begun to develop nerves prior to month number five. During this month a woman can still choose to abort a fetus.

Tell me the facts, are there any complications or even side effects of having an abortion?

There is no way around the answer to that question, which would be, yes. As with any surgical procedure that one might have, there is always the chance of something going wrong during the process. According to the Abortion Facts web site, some of the complications that can occur during a normal abortion procedure are as follows; one could have bladder injury or even bowel injury, there could be a failed abortion or worse, there could be hemorrhaging, one could contract hepatitis or obtain an infection, and even laceration of the cervix can occur. Another issue that can arise from a woman having an abortion is depression.

It is always best, if you are thinking about having an abortion, weigh your options and do your research. If a clinic seems low priced, chances are, you are not going to get a proper abortion. Shop around, make sure that you find a legit abortion clinic, and check into their history.
