To Bus or Not to Bus

Okay, so Wake county has decided that they do not want to continue sending kids from one district into another district to make sure that there isn't an abundance of one race or another in any given district. Historically, poor areas have poor schools. A lot of people that I know would think that these actions are appalling. They believe that the school board is re-segregating the school system. I'm not sure I agree with this.

I don't agree with the majority view because race is involved. The real issue is economic. Poor areas are already diverse. There are poor white, black, and hispanic kids and they usually grow up around the same area. So, when the school board wants to do away with the diversity policy, then need to address the economic situation of all of the communities in their district. In the more wealthy areas, the school system will be able to provide money to the teachers and therefore be able to recruit good help. In the poor areas, the state government should provide monies for the schools to recruit good talent, also.

Parents, I know you may not agree with me, but listen to my reasoning. Those parents that decide to use the public school system should take more responsibility for the advancement of their children. I have always grown up in the poor section of town and when to schools that were small and money was always tight. I know that if we help out those people that don't have as much as the next person, we just may be able to get our humanity back.
