To My Daughter on Her Graduation

A Poem

Etienne J. Sarfelli
I cannot sit here and conjure up
all of the emotions I will feel at your graduation
but I know there will be plenty
From the day you were born
I knew there would come a day
that you would leave me
and each day since has been bittersweet
I have laughed with you
and cried with you
and Lord knows that I have yelled at you
I have watched you grow
and I have been mesmerized by the changes in you
Your beauty, talent, and strength astound me
You never cease to amaze me.
And when the day of your graduation arrives
I am certain that I will experience something I've never felt before
And though I cannot even begin to imagine
the exact emotions I will feel that day
I know there will be plenty of tears caused by both sadness and joy
