Another extra fee is for meals. Yes, you will get that free bag of peanuts and complimentary drink, but if you want anything more you will have to pay. There is one other area that airlines are charging for that will shock you! Some airlines, are actually charging people for the blankets and pillows. How bad is that? Of course you get to keep the blankets and pillows, but this is still an awful thing to have to pay for.
How should you decide then whether to fly or to drive? The best thing to do, is to weigh the good things and the bad things about both options. For driving, you will have to factor in where you are going and for how long. You can then figure out the mileage, food costs, and also hotel costs. Flying costs will be based on where you go and what you decide to do when you get there.
So what is the better choice? It really depends on where you are planning to go. If it is far away flying may be the cheaper choice. If it is not too far from where you live, you may want to drive instead. Another very important fact is that you need to take in to consideration what you are planning on doing when you get there. This will also greatly effect your budget as well as decision.
Now how can you save on flying? First of all, some airlines offer packaged deals. These deals include airfare as well as a hotel. These can really save you a lot of money. You can also buy your tickets and then sign up for a web site that will alert you when there is a cheaper fare available. With driving, you can save money by choosing cheaper hotels to stay in. You could also consider packing a cooler with some food in it. This way you wouldn't have to eat out all of the time.
There are always ways to save, be creative with plans.
