To Eat Organic or Not to Eat Organic is the Question

G
Would I buy organic? I would love to, but in this recession I can not afford to. I barely have enough to cover my primary bills, so "splurging" for organic food is out of the question. I know splurging may sound funny, considering we are talking about my health, but I can eat non-organic food in moderation and be just as healthy. Organic food is a luxury, not a necessity.

For those reading this who buy organic, I know your argument is going to be eating organic will save me money in the future by cutting doctor visits and taking prescription medicines. I say health is the luck of the draw and a little work. Our bodies are predisposed to certain diseases and health conditions that no amount of organic foods will stop.

Back to the matter of the immediate hurt on your wallet. I went to harristeeter.com to compare pricing on one bunch of broccoli. The organic price is 2.99. If you are a VIC member the price is 2.69. You would think that is not bad, especially with your VIC card. The price for a regular bunch of broccoli is 2.49. If you buy two bunches per week, the total cost of the organic will be 310.96 compared to 258.96 for the regular bunch. I know the difference of 52.00 may seem small, but consider if you were trying to buy all organic. The price difference would be huge.

I commend those who want to eat healthy and go the extra mile to do it. I would love to join those groups of people, but either the prices will need to come down or wages will need to increase.
