To Harry the K

A Tribute to the Late, Great Harry Kalas

Bob McCoog
The score was 5-4
The Phillies were down by one run in the top of the ninth.
Wild Thing Mitch "Mitchie Poo" Williams was
On the mound.

Each pitch he threw,
One Two Three Four
Bounced all around.
Dutch ran out to the mound
To see what was the matter.

The bench had become quiet, no more chatter.
Schilling had his head covered with a towel
So no one could see his angry scowl.
And then the miracle happened,

With one pitch, then two pitch then three
'Swing and a miss
Struck him out, Mitch Williams' was heard from the booth.
And then another ground ball to the great
Mic
Key
Mor
An
Dini
For the double play.

The bottom of the ninth was up,
And Kruker was at bat.
He had gone ahead and garnered four balls
And put back on his baseball hat.
And then Inky had come up, and
The pitch was down the middle
Inky swung the bat and the voice we heard
Told us the game was done.
'And that ball is outta here! Home run!'

Fare well Harry Kalas,
Call the game up there now
With all the great ones on the mound
As they now have the great one
In the radio booth up there.
