To Be Heard

Steven Jacob Borthick
Two wolves biting at each other's throats
In a fury that drowns cries
Claws slashing, pounding
The puppy love that once was, has died
And rendered them both insecure
Help is not on their minds.

To be heard, she quit howling
No more barking
Merely whimpering, and so he drew her in
Disputes settled by forfeit
Know that love is more important
And silence is more influential.
